Things I've learned today...
It's only 10am, and yet it's been an interesting morning here at Getting Ink. Inspired by Mr Green, we thought we'd share some of the things we've found out today:
1. We were impressed to learn that the most common problem with Response Source is that journo's don't like getting ill-considered emails from PR types. Fortunately, though, you can now create and automatically email lists of up to 1,500 journalists in a matter of moments. Sounds like progress to me.
2. A PR at one of the UK's top five technology PR agencies sent me a picture of her client this morning, which I'd asked her to send to my editor at Computing. She asked if I could forward it, since she didn't have an email contact for Computing. Am I alone in finding this surprising?
3. A friend asked me to use my limited technical know-how to find him a mobile phone he could use at work. No problem, I say. Until he tells me his phone can't have internet access, email or a camera - he works in the security services. Two things: what about all the lovely gadgets they use in Spooks? And second, does anyone make phones without internet access and a camera these days?

Sally,
Just as journos don't like getting ill-considered emails from PR types. PR Types don't enjoy the relentless stream of feature enquiries from Response Source either!
It's a very useful and often invaluable tool, it's just not very precise when it comes to firing information at its targets...
Much like 60% of the tech PR industry, then...

Well, since I don't use Response Source, I don't spam PR types. (polishes halo)

Re: 3. I recall that Vodafone launched a 'simple phone' made by Sagem a couple of years ago: http://tinyurl.com/cftbj
I keep meaning to buy one for my mum.
You'll be pleased to know that neither company is a client of H&K (although I did once work on Voda's AR when I was at a different agency).

Thanks Dom, I think I remember the Simple phone - I write tech reviews for a retired peoples' magazine, and I've a feeling we covered it.
As I recall, it doesn't scream "I'm a fashionable, urban professional with cutting-edge communication needs", does it? Still, work a look...
